                     24 HOUR

These used to be almost exclusively on tracks and the preserve of the elite, but more varied events, open to all abilities, are now appearing.

Self-Transcendence 24 Hour Track Race - September. This well established race takes place every autumn at the Tooting Bec track in London. Refreshments and food is available at the trackside and there are good changing facilities and showers. Early entry is advisable to avoid disappointment as numbers are limited. Entry forms are available from the Sri Chinmoy website.

24 Hour Challenge - May. This event organised by Challenge Hub takes place over a 6.55 miles course on farm tracks in Kent. The ethos of the Challenge Hub is about helping people achieve and finish rather than outright competiveness.

Adidas 24 hour Thunder Run - July. This event was quite novel when it was first put on in 2009. Essential a relay race over a 10k off-road course it also has a solo class. The event takes place over a weekend at Catton Park in Staffordshire and there is free camping available, flush toilets and showers. The event has become very popular over the last couple of years mostly with teams, but the solo spots fill up as well. More details on the event organiser's, Pro-velo Support, website.

There are more events in Europe as well as 6 hour and 12 hour events that you can use to step up. Find these via Ultramarathonrunning or Multidays.
